GREETINGS TO THE GREEK DEMONSTRATION FROM THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE IN ENGLAND and THE GLOBAL CLIMATE CAMPAIGN

The fires in Greece, Australia and California, the hurricane in New Orleans, the cyclone in Bangladesh, and the long terrible drought in Darfur and across the Sahel are a warning. Time is short. If the governments of the world do not act to cut emissions drastically, we will face rapid climate change and hundreds of millions of dead, not in the time of our grandchildren, but in our own time. We are heartened by the size of your coalition and your demonstration. Joining us today are demonstrations in more than 50 countries, including much of Europe and China, India, Indonesia, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Phillipines, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Cameroon, South Africa, Tanzania, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Togo, Lebanon, Dubai, Morocco, Palestine, Colombia, Bolivia, Paraguay and Costa Rica. This is only the beginning. We must build a global movement to force the governments of the world to do everything in the power of humanity for the sake of every living thing on the planet.

Salute to all activists that has gathered at this space. We are sending our voice from Istanbul, Kadıkoy plaza. That is our fourth meeting against climate change. Since then, the problem has come to a size which is impossible to deny or disguise.

Global capitalism has created a huge crisis that we had never experienced before. But this is also a crisis which is hurting world's poors primarily. Katrina has hit New Orleans's poors, at previous weeks thousands of poor has died in Bangladesh. Last year dozens of poor Kurds has died because of floods in Batman.

Arms, oil and car manufacturers and governments as their voice, are playing with next generations future and doing that just for their furious profit instincts. Roots of the problem is obvious. US government has killed hundred thousands of Iraqis. At the other hand, they have stolen 30 years of oil profit with the hands of oil corporations. Turkish government is moving with US and denying to act for climate change. Government still favoring coal, natural gas and oil dependent economy. Neo liberal politics are feeding climate change. Turkish government has recently passed a law to promote nuclear plants and also coal plants as a part of this perspective. The movement is also growing in the mean time. There is a huge potential for greater struggles. Everyone on this earth has began to recognise the problem: It is capitalism. That's why we have to organise a bigger movement. Big worker's unions and more than 100 NGOs are supporting our cause at 8 Th of December. Just like the anti war campaign we are trying to create a big movement. We can only win by organising a global movement as we did against the war. That is why your struggle is ours, that is why we are all anti capitalists!
